When you visit Schaeffer Family Homes’ Design Center, there’s a good chance you’ll be greeted by our company’s cutest employee: Brutus Schaeffer! Brutus isn’t like your typical Schaeffer Homes team member – he’s small, has fluffy paws, a wet nose… and, well, he’s a dog! We’re putting our “Employee Spotlight” on Brutus, the company’s “mascot” whose adorable antics have stolen a big piece of our hearts (and our customer’s, too!).
Brutus is a very lovable 15-year-old Shih Tzu who’s been trotting around our Design Center ever since he was a puppy. He relishes in the hustle and bustle of our team’s workday, with new people (or, as Brutus calls them, “new friends”) flowing in and out of the office. We asked Brutus what his favorite part is about being the Schaeffer Homes mascot, and he emphasized, “The amazing belly rubs and delicious treats! And there’s nothin’ better than working alongside your best friends – they always make me feel right at home! Although I must admit, the belly rubs and treats are a huge benefit to being part of the team.” It’s no secret that Brutus loves his doggy delicacies, and he’s an expert at sniffing out who has the best lunch in the office. When you don’t find Brutus wandering around the Design Center soliciting treats and belly rubs, chances are he’s lounging in the lobby or hangin’ out with his mom, Susan Schaeffer. (He’s always been a momma’s boy!) Brutus loves keeping track of who’s coming in and out of the Design Center throughout the day (he truly is a social butterfly).
At home, Brutus spends his free time playing with any toy that makes squeaky noises and – you guessed it – enjoying more tasty snacks! So, you might be wondering, what’s Brutus’ favorite treat? Brutus revealed (while licking his chops), “That’s a toughie. I love ALL treats! But I really, really, REALLY love peanut butter and FRUIT! Nothing’s more important than a balanced diet – especially for staying spry in the workplace.” If we’re sure about one thing, Brutus is as wise as he is cute. (And he is VERY cute.)
When the weather’s nice, Brutus loves going down the shore and spending time with his family and friends. Even though Brutus loves treats and squeaky toys, he did make one thing crystal clear: “Don’t get me wrong, I love playing with Mr. Squeakers and munchin’ on a good snack at home… but my favorite place to be is with my family down the shore, enjoying a nice stroll along the beach.” The more time you spend with Brutus, the more you realize he’s just like the rest of us!
We asked Brutus what he’s looking forward to in the workplace, and he said, “We’re currently working hard toward getting our new sales office in Cherry Hill completed! We’ll be moving there sometime soon – it’s The Blake model! I’m mostly excited to finally have my very own dog shower at work! Now I can run around and get as dirty as I want – at home AND at the office! How cool is that?” It’s no secret that Brutus is dreaming of spa treatments in his new dog shower, and our whole team is eager for the completion of our new sales office. (Stay tuned for The Blake’s Grand Opening in Cherry Hill and come check out the new dog shower option we’ll be offering for your new home!)
Everyone at Schaeffer Family Homes knows that the workday without Brutus just wouldn’t be the same! There’s nothing that lifts our spirits more than hearing the jingle of his collar when he gets into the office. Whether we’re happy or sad, relaxed or stressed, Brutus always manages to put a smile on our faces. If you adore dogs as much as we do, you’ll love being greeted by Brutus Schaeffer at your next appointment at our Design Center! Choosing a floorplan that’s perfect for you and your family can be challenging, but when it comes to The Newport, it’s hard to go wrong! At Schaeffer Family Homes, The Newport is one of our most popular and versatile floorplans. This charming ranch-style home, which starts at 2,005 square-feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, offers unlimited possibilities when it comes to personalization.
When we work with our customers in the Design Center to customize their Newport, they can choose from three different exterior styles and various structural options, most of which are unique for a ranch-style home. Curious what we mean by “unique?” In The Newport’s “B” and “C” architectural designs, you can choose to finish the second floor and add options like the additional fourth and fifth bedroom. Although these additional second-floor rooms are traditionally used as bedrooms for kids or guests, many of our customers have fashioned them into at-home gyms, playrooms, “man-caves” or entertainment centers!
The Newport features a spacious master suite tucked away on the first floor with an incredible private bathroom and roomy walk-in closet. The great room, kitchen and dining rooms are designed with an open floorplan concept, which creates a flexible environment for hosting guests or spending quality time with the family.
At the heart of the kitchen is an angled center-island with a sink, perfect for your more “laid-back” meals or enjoying a cup of coffee before work. The large windows at the great room and dining room allow sunlight to radiate through the entire first floor, making for a naturally bright and welcoming atmosphere. At the front of the home are the second and third bedrooms, which many customers have utilized alternatively as a study or library. The included 2-car garage in The Newport provides enough room for your cars and storage, with an entrance that leads to the laundry and mud room.
Owning a Newport feels a lot like the movie “50 First Dates” – as each day passes, you fall in love all over again! And when you come home exhausted from work or running errands, there’s nothing that compares to pulling into your driveway and being greeted by your beautiful brand-new Schaeffer Home. (Trust us – we know from experience!)
No matter how you decide to design your Newport, we know that everyone who steps inside will feel right at home! Take the first step toward building your own Schaeffer Family Home – contact us at 856-208-5118 or e-mail email@example.com to learn more today!
Fun Fact: A lot of our floorplans are actually named after real people. Not celebrities or Presidents, but our own employees’ and homeowners’ unique and exuberant children! And our featured floor plan, the Blake, is no exception. Just like the real Blake, this 4-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 2,934 square home, is one that you’ll adore the minute you both meet!
The Blake model boasts incredible curb appeal with its charming exterior. Choose from a portico or a full front porch, add dormers, or even a third floor. The exterior choices on this home are endless. Our Blake model home in Cherry Hill, located at 42 Berlin Rd is currently under construction and will be ready to tour by the end of this year, but until then, we will walk you through the Blake in this blog!!
Past your front door, you’ll find a charming foyer with a living room and a dining room on either side. The dining room, perfect for celebrations and family dinners, leads into a spacious kitchen, complete with an island, a charming breakfast nook, and a butler’s pantry. Best of all, the kitchen flows freely into the family room, which makes cooking and sharing meals together all the more special. Towards the back of the home you will find a powder room and an area that would make a perfect drop zone for coats, backpacks, and everything in between.
Upstairs on the second floor, luxury and leisure await in your spectacular master bedroom, which provides two large walk-in closets and a spa-like bathroom. Beyond your bedroom, you have 3 more spacious bedrooms, a full bathroom, and best of all, an upstairs laundry room.
Last but not least, if you want even more space in your new home, you have the choice to add a third floor that includes an unfinished attic space for additional storage, or finish the space and add a 5th bedroom and bathroom. At Schaeffer Family Homes, we believe that your home should look and feel exactly the way you want it to, so we always make sure that the most important choices are all yours.
From family dinners in the backyard to get-togethers with friends, every moment in your Blake home feels entirely and uniquely like you. If you’re ready to start your greatest adventure yet, Schaeffer Family Homes can’t wait to help you get settled in! For more information, please visit us or give us a call at 856-208-5118.
You look forward to Thanksgiving each November. Whoever hosts always seems to pull it off
without a hitch. Now, you are all settled in your brand new Schaeffer home, and you’ve volunteered
to host this year. And the magnitude of the task has hit you. Don’t sweat it. You can do it – and make
it look effortless – thanks to your state-of-the-art kitchen and party-friendly open floor plan!
Invite early. The key to a stress-free Thanksgiving is to plan early. Once you commit to hosting, the
first thing you need to do is invite every single person you want to come. Even the last minute types
are likely to make Thanksgiving plans early in November, so start putting feelers out there ASAP. In
the meantime, start thinking about where you’re going to put everybody. (Flexible, open floorplans
make this part soooo much easier!)
Be organized. Planning and organizing is imperative. It’s the only way to make sure you don’t find
yourself with missing ingredients, a house that’s a mess, and hours of cooking still to be done when
your guests arrive. Start by making lists of everything you need to do, a schedule for the weeks
leading up to dinner, and shopping lists before you head to the store for ingredients and supplies.
Bonus! Lists let you see everything you need, and let you check things off. (Checking things off is a
really good feeling!)
Plan your menu. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, and you need a game plan. The first
step? Figure out what’s on the menu. Chances are your guests will want to bring things… you just
have to tell them what you need. Once you have the menu set, start shopping for non-perishables
(e.g. baking ingredients, bread cubes, herbs & spices), and make a corner of your pantry
“Thanksgiving Central”. Having everything in one place will help you keep track.
Cook in advance. Don’t stress out by trying to cook everything on Thanksgiving Day. Create a
timeline, and figure out what can be made ahead of time. Casseroles can be premade. Vegetables
can be chopped and ready to steam. Some things can’t be cooked early, like the turkey, but almost
everything else in the meal can be prepped and ready to just pop on the stove top or into the oven.
Let’s put that brand new kitchen to work!
Set up in advance. Establish your dining space (formal dining room, flex space, even the family room). Figure out if you’re having a sit-down meal or a buffet-style repast. Then, as long as you don’t have to worry about pets or small children upsetting things, set everything up days before the event. That way you won’t be scrambling to find the serving dishes that are somewhere in the basement; cleaning the dust off the extra wine glasses that are on that high shelf in the kitchen, and counting the flatware only to discover
you don’t have enough right before the first
guest rings the bell.
Offer snacks before dinner. Tasty appetizers benefit the cook as much as the guests. Bowls of nuts, some crackers and cheese, and trays of crudité or hot apps scattered throughout the family room, living room or basement rec room will keep them busy munching while you finish up! Keep the kids entertained. For children, it seems like Thanksgiving dinner takes foreveeeer to
land on the table. Keep ‘em occupied with games out in the yard, movies up in the loft or craft projects in the rec room.
Above all, relax and enjoy. Let your guests marvel at the spaciousness of your new Schaeffer home,
while you perform culinary magic in your new kitchen! Learn more about our holiday-friendly
