Summer in New Jersey is a wonderful time and the town of Voorhees is centrally located to find family fun activities within a 30 minute drive.
This state features 130 miles of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. And if you live in a home in Voorhees, NJ, then you can be at the beach in just over an hour. However, within 10 miles, there are three water and amusement parks including one of the largest indoor water parks in the state.
The Sahara Sam’s Oasis is an indoor water park that is open all year round, and is known for the NileMile, one of the fastest water slides that loops outside the building before ending up back inside. At the Clementon Park and Splash World, there are both roller coasters and water slides for the entire family from thrill rides to kiddie rides. Kids of all ages, especially little kids can enjoy a zero-depth entry splash pad at CoCo Key Water Resort, while bigger kids can cruise down the lazy river or rush down a 4-story water slide.
Despite being one of the most densely populated states, New Jersey is nicknamed the Garden State because it is one of the top ten producers for blueberries, cranberries, peaches, tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, apples, spinach, squash, and asparagus. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn about local farming. For example, visit the Blueberry Capitol in Hammonton, NJ about 15 miles away from Voorhees, where local farms will offer tours both inside and outside their facility.
In the nearby town of Cherry Hill, there is the Garden State Discovery Museum an interactive children’s science museum. Exploration and fun can continue by visiting the Paws Discovery Farm for hands on fun with over 80 kinds of animals, or explore the Adventure Aquarium with over 15,000 aquatic animals plus the largest collection of sharks in the Northeast.
If you are looking for more of a historical museum, visit the Battleship New Jersey, located about 10 miles away, to tour the ship and learn about local and naval history.
In addition to the farms, museum, and amusements parks, outdoor enthusiasts will also love the golf courses, hiking trails, and green spaces in and around Voorhees.
Then, after an exciting and family fun packed afternoon in the surrounding area, it will be nice to return to a quiet home in Voorhees, NJ. Specifically, Kresswood, a small community of four homesites, provides easy access to retail shopping and dining, recreation and parks, as well as major nearby cities with homes starting in the mid-$700s.

There are several benefits to building on your own lot with Schaeffer Homes, a family home builder in NJ. One of those benefits is being able to create the home you have always wanted. As you think about your new home and with the 2022 new year just ahead, here are a few new building and design trends to consider.
The all-white rooms and grey kitchens continue to be phased out, and color is making a come back. Spaces are once again becoming colorful and inviting, instead of cold and reserved. There are lots of cool tones and contrasts with the kitchen islands separate from the rest of the wall cabinets. For those who still desire the white or grey kitchens and spaces, look for ways to add pops of color. Mix in some warmer tones to the grey palate and top off white spaces with splashes of a primary color.
There are plenty of natural, subtle colors and warm tones still in trend for 2022, but personal style, that was a big part of 2021, will continue to be on display throughout our spaces in the new year as we continue to spend more time at home.
When you build with Schaeffer Family homes, a home builder in NJ, they will take care of the quality construction process, while you focus on the colors and designs that will be found throughout your new home.
Adding accents could literally throw a curve in your design plans. In 2022, curves such as curvy furniture to curved doorframes, can add character and exciting inspiration to an otherwise straight-line home.
In addition, designers will feature dark accents such as black or dark for interior and exterior spaces, including doorways and window frames, as well as in appliances with a shiny or matte finish.
Pause on adding overdone trends like shiplap and consider different ways to accent a wall. Look for ways to rough up those smooth lined subway tiles for a backsplash that has more rustic and mosaic additions. Additional accents to consider might include earthy pieces, whimsy one-offs, terracotta vases, marble coffee tables, and wooden furniture pieces.
Don’t forget to go green by adding indoor plants to your living space. Live plants can help to create calm and clarity as well as improve the indoor air quality. As you continue to cook more at home, add a small indoor herb garden where you can enjoy fresh accents of the edible kind at your fingers tips.
Last year saw the creation of multipurpose spaces within the home and this year, those flex/bonus rooms become better equipped to handle their dual functions. So multifunctional or dual-purpose furniture are great additions to provide some sustainability in the home.
Embrace eclectic furniture that again lets you feel more comfortable at home and shows off your personality. Plus as the inventory of new furniture remains low, there will be a demand for high-quality, expressive antiques. Furniture shopping could be a little easier with this style as second hand and consignment stores are bursting with a variety of these pieces.

This Fall’s design trends for 2021 are about bringing the feel of the outdoors in and adding layers of warmth and coziness to your living area. The turn of seasons provides a great opportunity to transform the look and feel of your home. Use this Fall to transition the interior décor for your new home in NJ from light and airy to warm and cozy.
If your new home in NJ has base layers of beige, white, and/or grey, then add some layers with rustic orange, mustard yellows, winter whites, and dark brown colors. Bring the outdoors in by concentrating on warm earth tones. Here are 3 ways to add warmth to your fall décor this season:
Pull Out the Candles and Lanterns
Create a welcome feeling with candles and lanterns. Look for accent pieces that have autumn orange or amber glow colors. Group a collection of candles and lanterns as table centerpieces, on side tables or in front of fireplaces. You can continue to use those summer floral vases by swapping the live flowers for dried arrangements of purple, green and orange. Take tall vases and candle lanterns and place dark yellow and amber colored candles inside them. As you are looking for fresh pieces to add and mix into your space, remember to “shop your home first” where you can find décor pieces that might look great in different areas and rooms of your home.
Layer On the Textiles
Another easily décor change for your new home in NJ this Fall is layering. Start by adding chunky layers of fabrics that are warm and cozy to beds and sofas. Cover existing throw pillows for the season in similar fabrics. When looking for warm and cozy fabrics look for velvet, suede, and/or fleece.
The layers don’t stop there. Easily layer a rug by taking a highly patterned rug that’s a bit too small, and adding a larger neutral color rug underneath. Or add a larger size wool rug that is smaller on top of a sisal border rug. For layering curtains and shades, try adding heavier fabrics for instant warmth and coziness to sheers and light panels.
Mix Furniture Styles
From mid-century modern to the 1920’s, vintage pieces can have both meaning and memories, especially if they were passed down from parents or grandparents. Whether it’s furniture or accent pieces, personalized homewares provide comfort by adding things that we know and are familiar with into our everyday surroundings. Not only are these great to mix in with your existing décor, but they also provide conversation pieces for Zoom backgrounds or when company is over.
Consider planning for those vintage or antique pieces while you are selecting your favorite floor plan. Look to Schaeffer Family Homes, a new home builder in NJ to help personalize your next home. Part of your home buyer journey includes this personalization by designing the home you want. Plan for furniture placement before you finalize your new floor plan and make sure you have room in your dining room for grandma’s China cabinet.

There are only a few lots available to build your new dream home in Mays Landing, NJ with Schaeffer Family Homes.
Choose from one of eight functional floor plans and different elevations ranging from 1800 to over 3100 sq ft. These single-family homes feature 3 and 4 bedrooms, 2 car garages, newly redesigned living spaces and more! Some homes have the option to add a basement.
Mays Landing was named for Captain George May, who sailed the Great Egg Harbor River in 1740, and then purchased the land in 1756. With its Main Street still intact, Mays Landing enjoys small community living and affordable homes. Then, all of the bustle, entertainment and excitement of Atlantic City with its famous boardwalk, sandy-wide beaches, and world class concerts and shows, awaits about 20 minutes down the road.
Life in Mays Landing includes a convenient location to work, live, commute and have easy access to shopping and activities. The community finds major shopping retailers in and around the Hamilton Mall and national restaurants to satisfy any craving.
Alternatives to shopping in the Mays Landing area include a great park, farm and café.
Explore the abandoned ruins of Weymouth Furnace County Park. The park is the site of an 1802 furnace and a forge operation that was later closed down and taken over by a pair of paper mills built on the same location. Today, after all operation at the site ceased in 1887, the mill ruins remain.
Down the road, it’s no laughing matter to find the Funny Farm Animal Sanctuary that shelters and cares for abused, injured, sick, and unwanted animals. Situated on fifteen private acres, the public is welcome to visit during designated times.
Arrive at the Watering Hole Café, after a long day of shopping or exploring. This local spot with a unique history traces back to the days of both stagecoaches and then again to Prohibition. The café is a 12-acre dining and drinking venue with great music, food, drinks.
Another appealing fact about this community with homes in Mays Landing, NJ is its low tax rate. So that’s a win win – a community of new single-family homes that are priced to sell combined with one of the lowest tax rates in the Atlantic County.

Schaeffer Family Homes has been building new homes and communities in South Jersey for over three generations! Much of our success can be contributed to the help of our hardworking and dedicated team members. We are excited to shine a well-deserved “Employee Spotlight” on Renee Verhoeven, our Property Manager and Administrative Assistant, who started as a part of our team in May of 1999!
Renee’s passion for her work is truly inspiring! She’s always willing to go above and beyond for everyone around her – from her teammates to her tenants – and she’ll never shy away from a challenge! Tim Schaeffer says, “Renee’s been my right hand for so long, at this point I can’t remember her not being there. Her experience and dedication always allowed me to take on a multitude of challenges without ever complaining.”
“Officially” speaking, Renee is our Administrative Assistant and Property Manager… but she certainly wears many different hats! Her passion for her work and her vast knowledge and experience in the industry have equipped her to take on and conquer any new project – big or small. Renee says her favorite part of her work is that, “I’m happy to have been trained in all departments of the business and enjoy being able to step in and help out wherever my help is needed. I love socializing with my tenants at the 55 and older community. There’s a lot of knowledge there to take in!”
Outside of work, Renee loves gardening and spending time with her granddaughter. She likes to go to parks and beaches to enjoy the outdoors with her family. Tim Schaeffer says, “Renee’s family has become an extension of our family over the years! Watching Renee’s daughter, Ashley, and the rest of her family grow has always been fun. And now that her son has made her a grandmother, a big part of her heart was stolen by her granddaughter.”
We are all very grateful to have such an awesome teammate like Renee! She’s a pleasure to work with and we can always count on her to lend a helping hand or teach us something new. Thank you, Renee, for everything you do for our team and your tenants!

Pucker up! We are under the mistletoe that is the holiday season. Year after year, Thanksgiving comes and goes in a flash, and before you know it, you’re left scrambling for last minute gifts for your family and friends. Overall, most people would agree that the holiday season is wonderful – people seem happier, tasty treats are always in abundance, and we typically get to enjoy more time with our loved ones. But with the hustle and bustle of seasonal parties and gift shopping, how can we maintain a healthy balance in our lives this holiday season?
Being a homeowner offers you the privilege of decorating however your little heart desires. Maybe you’re a master decorator… or maybe it’s just not your cup of tea? Either way, step out of your comfort zone this season with some fun wreaths, lights and garland! Even if you only put up a few adornments in your home, they’ll brighten your spirits throughout this holiday season (and your guests will love them, too!).
We all know procrastination can be hard to overcome but pushing off your gift shopping will only make life more difficult. When it comes to finding gifts for your loved ones, plan out what you’ll give to each person with lists. Decide when and where you will buy your gifts. Are you going to order them online? Will you stop at the store during your lunch break? Write everything down on your list and stick to your plan! Don’t forget to schedule out some time to wrap those gifts, too!
Time tends to slip by quicker than ever during the holidays. Whether you use your phone or a calendar, keep your schedule up-to-date, and consider blocking out times for daily or weekly tasks like grocery shopping, cleaning and doing laundry. If you have a desk job, make sure you are prioritizing and maximizing your workdays in the office. The holidays can be demanding of your schedule and life still carries on in the meantime… it’s important to capitalize on your time spent at home and in the office to end the year on a great note!
The holidays just wouldn’t be the same without gingerbread men, delicious pies and grandiose meals! Those holiday dinners and lunches, fresh baked goods and seasonal sweets are awesome – in moderation. Sure, go ahead and eat that sugar cookie! You deserve it! But when January rolls around, keep in mind that you may regret eating every treat that comes your way.
Chances are you’ll be running errands more often during the holiday season, but it’s still important to maintain your physical and mental health! Try to find time to get to the gym or attend a yoga or spin class. If your schedules jam-packed, find alternative ways to stay active! Take the stairs. Walk to the store. Take the family or a friend to go ice skating. There’s always some way to fit exercise into your day! It will help keep your mind clear and your body feeling energized.
Whether it’s for work, your family or yourself, set a goal to reach by the end of December! Make it challenging, yet achievable! Keep the goal positive and fun – not something that will feel like a “punishment” to reach. If you meet that goal, treat yourself in the New Year. It will give you something to work toward and look forward to when the holidays are finally over.
Nothing will get you in the holiday spirit more than helping others and giving back in any way that you can. Whether you make a monetary donation or volunteer your time, any contribution toward helping others can make a big difference!
If you’re interested in giving back but aren’t sure how, Schaeffer Family Homes would like to invite you to donate to The Wyatt Strong Foundation’s 2nd Annual Toy Drive. This foundation is particularly dear to our hearts, as all the donations are made in remembrance of Wyatt Hopkins, our Construction Administrator, Gail Hopkins’ grandson. All donations will be hand-delivered to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Tennesse by Wyatt’s parents and little brother. For more information about what to donate and how, visit this link: https://www.stjude.org/treatment/services/clinics-and-services/child-life/provide-a-special-event-at-the-hospital/contribute-supplies.html
We also welcome you to schedule a time to drop your items off to our Design Center in West Berlin, NJ. Please contact us here: 856-208-5118 or general.info@schaefferhomes.com to schedule a time to drop your donation off!
DEADLINE FOR DONATION DROP-OFF: Friday, 12/13 by 5pm.
Get festive with an ugly sweater party at your new Schaeffer Home! Or cuddle up on the couch and watch that holiday movie you’ve been longing to see. Even though this season is about making memories with loved ones and giving back to others – you can’t forget to give back to yourself!
Maintaining a healthy balance during the holiday season can be so much easier when you stay organized, focused and mindful. Don’t procrastinate! Stay on top of your schedules and to-do lists. Decorate your house with snowmen, lights and trinkets! Create fun and rewarding “end-of-year” goals. Be kind and give back whenever possible! Have a blast with your loved ones and take some time for yourself. On behalf of our team at Schaeffer Family Homes, we hope you have an amazing holiday season. Let’s end this decade with a bang!
When you visit Schaeffer Family Homes’ Design Center, there’s a good chance you’ll be greeted by our company’s cutest employee: Brutus Schaeffer! Brutus isn’t like your typical Schaeffer Homes team member – he’s small, has fluffy paws, a wet nose… and, well, he’s a dog! We’re putting our “Employee Spotlight” on Brutus, the company’s “mascot” whose adorable antics have stolen a big piece of our hearts (and our customer’s, too!).
Brutus is a very lovable 15-year-old Shih Tzu who’s been trotting around our Design Center ever since he was a puppy. He relishes in the hustle and bustle of our team’s workday, with new people (or, as Brutus calls them, “new friends”) flowing in and out of the office. We asked Brutus what his favorite part is about being the Schaeffer Homes mascot, and he emphasized, “The amazing belly rubs and delicious treats! And there’s nothin’ better than working alongside your best friends – they always make me feel right at home! Although I must admit, the belly rubs and treats are a huge benefit to being part of the team.” It’s no secret that Brutus loves his doggy delicacies, and he’s an expert at sniffing out who has the best lunch in the office. When you don’t find Brutus wandering around the Design Center soliciting treats and belly rubs, chances are he’s lounging in the lobby or hangin’ out with his mom, Susan Schaeffer. (He’s always been a momma’s boy!) Brutus loves keeping track of who’s coming in and out of the Design Center throughout the day (he truly is a social butterfly).
At home, Brutus spends his free time playing with any toy that makes squeaky noises and – you guessed it – enjoying more tasty snacks! So, you might be wondering, what’s Brutus’ favorite treat? Brutus revealed (while licking his chops), “That’s a toughie. I love ALL treats! But I really, really, REALLY love peanut butter and FRUIT! Nothing’s more important than a balanced diet – especially for staying spry in the workplace.” If we’re sure about one thing, Brutus is as wise as he is cute. (And he is VERY cute.)
When the weather’s nice, Brutus loves going down the shore and spending time with his family and friends. Even though Brutus loves treats and squeaky toys, he did make one thing crystal clear: “Don’t get me wrong, I love playing with Mr. Squeakers and munchin’ on a good snack at home… but my favorite place to be is with my family down the shore, enjoying a nice stroll along the beach.” The more time you spend with Brutus, the more you realize he’s just like the rest of us!
We asked Brutus what he’s looking forward to in the workplace, and he said, “We’re currently working hard toward getting our new sales office in Cherry Hill completed! We’ll be moving there sometime soon – it’s The Blake model! I’m mostly excited to finally have my very own dog shower at work! Now I can run around and get as dirty as I want – at home AND at the office! How cool is that?” It’s no secret that Brutus is dreaming of spa treatments in his new dog shower, and our whole team is eager for the completion of our new sales office. (Stay tuned for The Blake’s Grand Opening in Cherry Hill and come check out the new dog shower option we’ll be offering for your new home!)
Everyone at Schaeffer Family Homes knows that the workday without Brutus just wouldn’t be the same! There’s nothing that lifts our spirits more than hearing the jingle of his collar when he gets into the office. Whether we’re happy or sad, relaxed or stressed, Brutus always manages to put a smile on our faces. If you adore dogs as much as we do, you’ll love being greeted by Brutus Schaeffer at your next appointment at our Design Center! For more information about building with Schaeffer Family Homes, call us at 856-208-5118 or e-mail general.info@schaefferhomes.com!
Halloween is an exciting time of year for everyone to enjoy! Whether you’re young or old, getting dressed up for trick-or-treating and costume parties is always a blast, and there are endless fall activities for people of all ages. At Schaeffer Family Homes, our favorite way to get in the Halloween spirit is by decorating our homes with spooky spiderwebs, ghastly ghouls and all things haunted! Here’s everything you need to know for making your home the most “wicked” trick-or-treating stop on the block:
Halloween just wouldn’t be the same without spiderwebs! Head over to the nearest dollar store or craft shop and grab a bunch of fake cobwebs. Not only are fake cobwebs quick and easy-to-use, but they can be utilized in so many different places! Our favorite spots to place our cobwebs are throughout walkway bushes and along the plants and decorations that sit on our doorsteps.
When decorating for fall and Halloween, we recommend sticking with a color scheme in each room to maintain a cohesive, yet festive feel. Choose a few colors that complement each other (for example: black, orange and white) and decorate within that color palette for each area. Mantels and fireplaces are a great space for fashioning a colorful Halloween-themed centerpiece at the heart of your home (along with a few cobwebs, perhaps?).
Mums are fall’s favorite flower, so swing by your local garden shop and stock up on this seasonal staple! Plant your mums in a decorative Halloween pot to liven up your front yard or doorstep. If you’re looking for a fun activity to do with the kids (or you’re just feeling extra festive), you can buy some plain flower pots or tins for your mums and paint them as ghosts, pumpkins, black cats and more!
Window space is very important when it comes to decorating for all holidays. Adorn your windows with creepy carve-outs, funky orange lights or fake cobwebs to take your space from homey to haunted.
Whether your yard is big or small, you should utilize its space! Use outdoor decorations and mysterious lighting to create spooky scenes. Maybe you’ll arrange a few witches around a smokey cauldron or display a headless horseman who’s ready to ride! Don’t be afraid to get creative and creepy with different ideas to make your home the most wicked on the block!
We love decking out our banisters for the holidays! At the craft store, you can buy all sorts of garland, lights and string to wrap around your banister’s handrails. If you want to keep your banister decorated through Thanksgiving, you can easily adorn it with garland made of fake fall leaves that make a lasting impression. Or, if you’re interested in taking the wicked route, you can use black garland and orange lights for an eerie atmosphere that’s perfect for Halloween.
Front doors aren’t just for wreaths! You can “mummify” your front door with white strips of paper and large googly eyes, or even turn it into a furry monster with fuzzy faux fur and fake teeth! There are endless ways to make your entryway spicy and spooky with wrapping paper or colored painters tape and more. Front doors and patios also offer a great opportunity to create a theme for your haunted home (for example: “The Morgue,” “The Witches Coven,” “The Potions Cellar,” and more!)
Real or fake, pumpkins are a necessity when it comes to Halloween. Festoon your doorstep with pumpkins galore! Whether you paint them, carve them, or leave them as-is, pumpkins are vital for getting in the Halloween spirit. Scatter pumpkins of all different shapes, sizes and colors in and around your home to complete your haunted house creation!
Whether you decide to use one, none or ALL of our decorating tips this Halloween, we know your Schaeffer Family Home will look as wicked as ever! Tag us in your decorating photos on Facebook or Instagram @SchaefferFamilyHomes and show us what you’ve got! From everyone at Schaeffer Family Homes, we hope you enjoy a thrilling, chilling and safe Halloween!
